We’re proud to introduce our March Employee Spotlight-Kirk Wallace! Kirk has over eight years of engineering and construction experience in project management, quality assurance, and site safety. He’s a licensed Professional Engineer, U.S. Army Veteran, and was a Project Engineer for the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers before coming to Plus Group. With his diverse industry experience and demonstrated leadership ability, Kirk brings a unique set of skills and experiences to our team.
His early passion for buildings and design led him to a civil engineering and construction career. However, Kirk always wanted to be hands-on and in the field. After earning his Civil Engineering degree from Norwich University, Kirk entered the U.S. Army as a Transportation Officer and was soon deployed to Afghanistan. Later, he transferred to the Reserve, where he became a Psychological Operations Officer, mobilized in support of U.S. Central Command, and earned the rank of Major. He received 12 decorations for his service, including a Bronze Star Medal.
Following his active military service, Kirk worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, providing him the opportunity to oversee significant construction projects as Project Engineer and serve on disaster relief teams. Kirk led field teams for construction projects with values ranging from $500K to $6MM, gaining expertise in program analysis and structural engineering. His work in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria highlights his dedication to service and ability to perform in challenging environments.
Since joining Plus Group in 2021, Kirk has been instrumental to our Design Build team as a construction manager and licensed engineer, overseeing all phases of construction and infrastructure projects. Whether managing a complex project or working with his team to overcome challenges, Kirk’s dedication to quality and commitment to our clients is unmatched. He is always willing to go the extra mile to deliver excellent results and ensure our clients are satisfied with our work.
Kirk believes Plus Groups’ values align with his own, citing our company’s values and culture as one of the key reasons he chose Plus Group. “Character is doing the right thing when no one is looking. I think we live up to our 3 C’s- clients, community, coworkers- because our culture fosters doing the right thing over maximizing profit.” Kirk sees his work as an opportunity to positively impact the community, and he is proud to be part of a company that shares his values. Kirk has several professional accolades but considers raising his two children with his wife of 10 years his greatest accomplishment.
What is the most rewarding or challenging thing about your job?
When I left federal service, I was afraid that I wouldn’t fulfill my call to be of service. However, the kind of jobs we take on positively impact people from the local to the international level.
What’s the most significant career lesson or life lesson you’ve learned? Set conditions but always be flexible. The harder you try to force outcomes, the more opportunities you miss.
