Process Plus facilitated the process, packaging and facilities conceptual and definition design for a 420,000 ft.2 greenfield moist pet food facility for three process streams and two packaging lines, plus future snacks production. Our work included programming functional adjacencies and master planning the facility and site logistics in conjunction with the Prime Consultant, a billion dollar construction firm that provided the site and building utilities definition; process, people and product/material flow along with developing PFDs for the manufacturing systems.

The end user is a large European manufacturer of moist pet food and treats. Process Plus visited two of its plants to benchmark existing operations and, working with the customer and the Prime Consultant, developed optimized layouts that allow for phased implementation and expansion, while embedding Clean Design principles into the layout to minimize food safety risks initial costs.

Value Provided:

  • Engineering, Capital Cost and Value Engineering rework savings and avoidance through cohesive execution with construction firm.
  • Multiple iterations of process layouts to optimize footprint and allow for orderly expansion with minimal business interruption or food safety risks.
  • Leveraged knowledge and experience in multiple pet food and meat facilities to deliver best-in-class application of Food Safety and Clean Design principles and practices.
  • Helped customer adapt its current Good Manufacturing Practices to the design of the new facility.
